Beautiful Beaches: Mallorca, Spain – Playa Coll Baix

I had read that the island of Mallorca, in Spain has a surpluss of beautiful beaches to enjoy, and Coll Baix surely did not disappoint!

This was a spontaneous day trip. And although it was a slightly difficult trek to get there, it was WELL worth the challenge!

One of my new friends Ceci offered to take me to the beach while my friends and house hosts attended a wedding. I gladly obliged, dying to see some of the gorgeous Mallorcan beach landscapes in person, that I had been reading so much about.

My friend had let me know it was about a 20 minute walk to the beach, and although she had been before some time ago, she had forgotten roughly what the walk entailed.

In reality, it is actually a medium difficulty hike, approximately 6.5 KM each way. Now I was literally not prepared for this hike. Typically when a friend says lets go to the beach, and there is a 20 minute walk to get there, you don’t imagine you will be sweating your tits off in a zig zaggy, rocky hike. Eeeeep! I was dressed in flip flops, with a cute sundress on, and an oversized beach bag.  I highly recommend you DO NOT do this 😉 Because of my unreasonable hiking attire, the trek took about 90 min each way.

For this hike you would want to wear runners or hiking boots, bring a back back to keep your hands free for the hike. The hike is fairly rocky, surrounded by gorgeous pines. Towards the end of the hike it is extremely rocky, and you sort of have to scale the mountainside on a narrow path and manoeuvre through the massive boulders before reaching your final destination.

Bring plenty of water, and snacks to stay hydrated and nourished for the activity.  (There are no stores or restaurants around) There are also no public washrooms on this hike. I recommend bringing some kleenex, and a trash bag for your garbage as there are also no bins around to get rid of your trash. (Please keep our beaches clean! 🙂 ) Make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen, and you may want to bring a small first aid kit in case of any scrapes or cuts along the way. Also a headlight or flashlight would be very helpful if you plan on hiking back after sunset.

This hike truly pushed my fitness levels, as I am not in my best physical shape at the moment. Thankfully Ceci was an awesome guide, and extremely patient and helpful with me along the way. I pushed through, not once complaining! Catching glimpses of the secret cove of breathtaking unspoiled beach below, was the ultimate motivation to keep going.

Sweaty, hot and tired, jumping down from the last boulder onto the beach, I was completely captivated by the beauty.

Located on the Northern Coast of Mallorca, approximately 7 KM from Alcudia’s ‘Old Town’ you reach the shimmering crescent of blissful beach, surrounded by the textured wooded Mediterranean mountain sides, which truly provides the most stunning landscapes to take in while resting on the beach. Primarily smooth pebbles, mixed in with coarse grains of sand, this beach is only accessible by hiking, or by boat. You can look into hiring a tour boat operator – as there are tours to the beach from town.

If you are visiting the town of Alcudia in Mallorca, you MUST take a day for this picturesque adventure! It is one you will not regret!

    1. Thank you!!! It was awesome! 😁😁😁

  2. Reminds me of all the hiking to beautiful beaches I did in Ibiza. Must be a balearic island signature characteristic.
